This weekend was the annual Shiner's Circus. We decided we would try to take the boys and see how they would do. There are tons of activities for the kids and the circus is 3-4 hours long. We only made it an hour and a half before our boys were falling asleep in the stands. We left at intermission. They had a great time.
Tickets arrived yesterday. Brian and I are so excited we can hardly stand it. A five day trip to Florida in less than a month...just us.
We are supposed to get snow accumulation tonight so the boys and I decided to get some fresh air. Brian was able to meet us at the park for a quick picnic in the car then we played at the playground for a little bit. It was a little chilly but well worth it to get some fresh air in our lungs.
If you have read my blog more than once you probably know Brice loves dinosaurs. "Dinosaurs are amazing!" he said today as we visited the Sam Nobel Museum of Natural History. He is so much fun.
We took the boys by Bass Pro yesterday for a small outing to get us all out of the house. Sickness be gone!
Besides the big fish tank the boys love to play in the tents. When we came home we set up their tent and they spent a large part of the day playing in and around their tent. They were unfortunately attacked by pterodactyls. Fortunately, Brice was there to save his brother from the attacking dinosaurs. Whew!
We have been fortunate enough this winter to have every illness that has passed through Oklahoma. Today the boys were finally able to eat lunch together. Poor little Rogan who has had croup was back on his feet. We are still fighting coughs and runny noses but hopefully we are on the downhill side of things.
I took the boys to the aquarium today. We go there a lot, I am aware of that. The aquarium is just down the road and we buy passes each year so it is a close and convenient way to get the ants out of the boys' pants.
Brice has been playing with octopus toys a lot lately. He goes through phases with his favorite toys and this week it has been the octopus. Of course since we were going to the aquarium we had to take the octopus toys with us. It only makes sense.
We had been standing in front of the shark tank for quite some time watching all the sharks swim pass. I had not noticed that Brice did not have the octopus toys in his hands. I was watching the sharks too and apparently not keeping a close enough eye on my child. A mother wearing a sling with her young infant inside, a boy around Brice's age and I assume the children's grandmother walked over and were watching the sharks next to us.
They were ready to move on before us and I did not pay much attention to them until I heard a scream and the little boy crying. I turned toward the commotion and the mother was picking up the octopus toys that Brice had strategically placed on the ground behind us all and showing him they were just toys and nothing to be afraid of. I immediately apologized and Brice said, "oops sorrrrwwweeee". The mother continued to console her son and I walked over with Brice to pick up his toys. The boy's mom said to me he thought the octopus escaped from their tank but he's fine. They walked away and Brice said, "Uh oh Boss stink!" He was right, it did stink. I think Brice might have scared the living...uh um daylights out of the poor boy.
So, if the innocent young boy who was probably visiting the Oklahoma Aquarium for the first time and was traumatized, we apologize. They were not real, just toys. If you knew Brice you would completely understand.
The terrible twos are upon us. I had hoped Rogan would be less likely to throw fits because he is a better communicator. Nope, I was wrong. He's an emotional roller coaster. He will be perfectly content and then without warning the storm is upon us. He will get up and start to walk around screaming, crying and banging his hands on the furniture. Why? I have no idea. I have not been able to figure out what sets him off. Sometimes a fit starts because he is tired. Other times all is well, we're sitting around singing Kumbaya (not really I'm being dramatic) and he will get up walk away and start in.
Brice was fairly easy going during his "terrible twos". He did not begin to mutate into an angry Gremlin until he was three. At four he now resembles a fun loving happy go lucky child again.
Looking at the bright side I am happy that perhaps we are getting the "Gremlin" stage over with early. I'll just have to remember not to feed him after midnight. Wish me luck!
My boys took their Valentine's Day gift cards and spent them on toys today. I told Brice last night we would go and spend his gift card today. The first thing he said this morning, "Alright we get toys!" They also received cards from their grandparents and great grandmother. What a fun day.
